About the Role
Serosoft — India’s leading Educational ERP software company, a Deloitte Fast 50 company and ET Growth Champion — is looking for a strong Functional QA Engineer to safeguard the quality and reliability of our product, Academia. This is a core testing role: we’re looking for someone who does manual and functional testing rigorously, understands the business behind the software, and is eager to grow into automation, performance, security, and AI-assisted testing over time.
You’ll work closely with product, engineering, and business teams across a platform used by 400+ institutions and over a million learners in 30+ countries — so attention to detail and an end-user mindset matter here.
What You’ll Do
- Understand business requirements and translate them into clear, well-structured test scenarios, test cases, and test plans with strong requirement-to-coverage traceability.
- Perform thorough functional, smoke, sanity, integration, and regression testing across web-based product modules.
- Apply risk-based testing to prioritise coverage where it matters most.
- Create and manage test data, and set up/maintain test environments for reliable, repeatable testing.
- Validate application behaviour and data at the back end using SQL / database queries.
- Test REST APIs using Postman as part of end-to-end functional coverage.
- Own the defect lifecycle in Jira — isolate, replicate, log with clear reproduction steps, participate in triage with developers, and verify fixes.
- Act as a quality gatekeeper before releases, giving a clear, evidence-backed view of release readiness.
- Collaborate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies (sprint reviews, planning) and build targeted test plans per sprint.
- Invest in learning the product domain and business processes deeply — higher-education ERP is functionally rich, and strong domain understanding is what separates good QA here from average QA.
- Contribute ideas to improve testing and quality processes, and to design features with testability in mind.
Must-Have Skills & Experience
- 3+ years in QA / software testing, with real depth in manual and functional testing of web applications.
- Proven ability to design test cases, test scenarios, and test plans from requirements, and to run regression, sanity, smoke, and integration cycles.
- Solid requirement analysis and the discipline to map requirements to test coverage.
- Hands-on test data creation and test environment management.
- Working SQL / database knowledge to validate data and back-end behaviour.
- Comfortable testing REST APIs with Postman.
- Strong defect tracking and root-cause discipline using Jira.
- Solid grounding in QA processes in Agile/Scrum environments.
- Genuine willingness and aptitude to learn a new, complex product and its underlying business processes.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, with an end-user mindset.
- Comfortable collaborating with remote / distributed teams.
Good to Have (Advantageous, Not Required)
Any of the following will strengthen your application and open faster growth paths in the team:
- Test automation exposure with frameworks like Selenium, Katalon, Playwright, or similar.
- Performance / load testing exposure (e.g., JMeter).
- Security testing awareness (OWASP concepts, basic VAPT familiarity).
- AI-assisted QA exposure — AI-based test case generation, defect analysis, or AI-powered testing tools. Serosoft is actively investing in AI across the SDLC, so curiosity here is genuinely valued.
- BDD and the ability to write scenarios in Gherkin/Cucumber.
- ISTQB or similar QA certification.
- Prior exposure to ERP, SaaS, or EdTech products.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Professional QA certifications such as ISTQB are an added advantage.
